Vehicles have an OBD socket primarily for collecting vehicle data and diagnostics. However, thieves have figured out how to misuse this feature. By breaking a window or picking a door lock, they can quickly connect to the socket and gain control of the vehicle, bypassing the need for the original keys.
In short, it stops thieves from using the OBD port as a doorway to your ECU, meaning they can’t override the OBD device or program new keys. Your van or car stays out of their reach, and out of harm’s way.
